Great leaders have the ability to develop and enable that potential in others.
One of the biggest mistakes that leaders make is thinking that people development is about the moment. It’s not. People development is always about future potential.
Leaders get impatient. We get frustrated. But what this reveals about us is that we are not leading with vision. We are not developing people based on their potential. So if we are correcting, we do so with a focus on potential. When we are teaching or mentoring, we do it with a focus on the future potential of the individual.
Every person has potential. Our job as leaders is to identify it, develop it, and enable it for the good of those we are leading.
